Asbury Wilson was born on July 14, 1938 in Abbeville County, SC. He was the son of the late Willie and Twelvenner Elmore Wilson and widower of Martha Wilson. Asbury passed on Monday December 23, 2024 in Greenwood, SC. He was 86 years old
Asbury was a member of Mt. Clement CME Church in Abbeville, SC where he served as a Steward. He attended Abbeville County Schools and worked in logging before retirement.
In addition to his parents and wife, Asbury was preceded in death by a son, Howard Slappy, grandson, Desiray Mon’tay Starks; brothers, James Wilson, Willie Wilson Jr., Henry Wilson, Robert Wilson and Mabry Wilson; sisters, Walla Wilson, Willie Bell Slaughter, Sally Long and Elevenner Goosby.
Asbury’s memories will be cherished by his sisters, Emma Calhoun (John Henry) and Rose Parson (Russell) both of Buffalo NY and Rev. Marie Hunter (James) of Abbeville, SC; sons, Cornealius Anderson (Anna) of Spartanburg, SC and Erazmen Chalmers (Akeiva) of Anderson, SC; daughters, M. Jean Martin (Maurice) of Kansas City, MO, Joyce Devaux (Phillip) of Abbeville, SC Gloria Simmon (Kevin) of Anderson, Marcella Anderson of Anderson, SC and Diane Waller (Cornelius) of Abbeville, SC; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of other relative's and friends who will miss him dearly.
