Azalee Searles Gilchrist “Honey” to everyone who knew and loved her transitioned from her earthly home on Washington School Road in Parksville, SC to her heavenly home on Sunday July 25, 2021. Honey was born on November 11, 1928 right here in Plum Branch, SC. She was 92 years old and the third child of William “Heck” and Geneva (Wells) Searles. Honey was a life- long resident of McCormick County, specifically Plum Branch and Parksville. Honey graduated from Augustus Roberson (A.R.) Johnson High School (Augusta, Georgia) in 1948. She maintained a life-long membership at Pine Grove A. M. E. Church. Azalee was the present Mother of the Church, and a Stewardess Emeritus. She also served on the Missionary Ministry and was a member of the Pulpit Aide Ministry.
Honey was predeceased in death by her parents , her husband, Stanley Gilchrist, a daughter, Rose Gilchrist Register, a granddaughter, Felicia Gilchrist, an older sister, Dorothy Searles Freeman, a younger sister, Odessa Searles White and her brother, Willie “Gammie” Searles.
Honey was short in stature but possessed a fiery spirit. She was always fun to talk with.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Darryl) Brown of Irmo, SC, her son, Claude Gilchrist of Parksville, SC, her sister, Georgia Searles Beard of Augusta, GA, her granddaughter, Alicia G.(Sean) Malone of Detroit, MI, her grandsons, Shaka (Leslie) Brown of Lugoff, SC and Tito (Terri) Register of Aurora, CO, six great- grandchildren , one great-great-grandchild, nine nieces and nephews, her brother in-law, Jesse White of North Augusta, SC, her sister-in-law Eleather (JC) Williams of Martinez, GA. and a host of other relatives and friends
