Bettye Jo Boyd Cunningham was bone on May 19, 1952 in McCormick, South Carolina. She was the oldest beloved daughter of Mary Lee Norman Boyd and the late George Dennis Boyd.
Bettye was educated in the school system in Willington, SC and attended Mims Elementary School Number 3 and was a proud graduate of Mims High School Class of 1970. She furthered her education at Piedmont Technical College receiving a certificate as an Office Technician.
Bettye was a member of Little Mill Baptist Church. She regularly attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with her mother and sister, Alfredia Boyd.
She was employed with Greenwood Mills for over 30 years. After retirement she worked as a Foster Grandparent at North Aiken Elementary School. She enjoyed working with the children who affectionally called her “Grandma”.
Bettye had a loving spirit which she showed to all she met. She loved her friends, family and especially her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Her generosity was limitless and she loved to share stories about her grandchildren.
Bettye loved to travel with her family especially with her mother and sister. They were known as the triplets by many family members. She frequently traveled to Delta Sigma Theta conferences and conventions with her sister.
Many of you recall the “Boyd Family Cookout”, Bettye Jo was the architect in the planning an implementation. At the end of each cookout, she evaluated all aspects and made recommendations for improvements. Of course, we always made the changes because as many of you know she loved to be the Boss Lady.
Bettye Jo’s memories will be cherished by her sons, Keldrick Antiono Cunningham (Maria) of Greenwood, SC and Chuckye Cunningham (Shenra) of Duncan, SC, sister, Alfredia Boyd of Columbia, SC; brothers, George Boyd Jr. (Sarah) of Watkinsville, GA and Donald Boyd of Edgefield, SC; grandchildren, Keldrick Antiono Cunningham, Jr.,Ke’mon Antiono Cunningham, Kizziah Danielle Cunningham, Kennedy Denise Cunningham, Cooper Lanier Cunningham, Sheadon Meadors (Cierra) and Shamajay Poole; great- grandchildren, Layken Meadors and Hazel Meadors, and a host of other relatives and friends.
