Catherine B. Lang (née Herttna)

May 20, 1948 ~ May 26, 2025

Born in Ravenna, Ohio, the ninth of thirteen children, Cathie’s distinctive voice, forthrightness, and her meticulous organization skills are legendary.  She, and the love of her life, Bob, worked for many years at Terex Corporation in Ohio, and were enthusiastic boaters.  Later, they moved to Russell Springs, KY, where they opened and operated Bob’s Marina on Lake Cumberland.

Cathie was always generous with her creativity and her time, crocheting and making gifts for her family.  When Cathie moved to McCormick, SC in 2006, she forged deep friendships and found service through her quilting group and wine club.  She completed 674 quilts for Project Linus, in addition to the many lovingly made for family and friends.

She overcame breast cancer a decade ago, but was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February of this year.  While receiving Hospice care she continued to spend time with family and friends, to quilt and to do yard work as long as possible. Cathie always spoke her mind, but also delivered a silent message quite eloquently with an inclined tilt of the head and The Look.

Cathie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lang, her parents Edward, an avid reader who instilled a love of reading, and Joyce Sylvester; as well as her six brothers Edward, Kenneth, Raymond, Robert, I. Dennis, and Gerald Sylvester.  She is survived by her stepsons, Dale (Kathy) and Daniel (Meg) Lang, grandchildren Robert (Amanda) Lang, Sarah (Jason) Rizzo, and Eric (Alyssa) Lang,  great-grandchildren, Allyson, Gabriel, Emmett, and Warren Lang, and Addy and Maya Rizzo, plus six sisters: Carolyn (Aldon) Adams, Judi Clem, Shirley (John) Feko, Edith Sylvester, April Dunbar, and Mary (Mike) Feko, as well as many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors, who she loved dearly.

There will be no funeral services.
