Eddie Lee Matterson Obituary

Eddie Lee Matterson quietly, peacefully yet unexpectedly departed this life May 3rd 2026. He was born and raised in McCormick, SC. After attending and graduating Mims High School, he became a very young school bus driver. He remained in McCormick, trying his hand at various additional jobs, until he decided to venture out into the world in his teens by way of enlisting with the United States Air Force with one of his best friends with a mission to see the world. They were stationed together until his friend decided to not stay on after their initial enlistment had expired. He decided to re-enlist in the USAF and on his break between his next relocation he returned to McCormick and married his high school local schoolmate, Teresa Wells. Together they traveled the world, enjoying their experiences while starting a family.

After serving in the military for 25+ years, he and his wife, Teresa decided to settle in Philadelphia, PA where he secured a job at the America Bag & Paper Company for many years. After the paper company decided to move to the mid-west he was offered to continue his foreman position at the new location. He decided to stay in the Philadelphia area and resumed at another similar paper company located in Bucks County, PA until he received a job offer from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority where he continued until he retired. Upon his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed their lives relaxing and taking trips intercontinental, which included trips back to the McCormick area visiting relatives and friends. In December 2016, they returned to where they originally hailed from, further enjoying their reconnection with their hometowns to stay. His wife, Teresa passed in December, two years later and Eddie anchored into the town further strengthening his resolve to remain near the cemetery where she is located and his extended family and friends who also have remained.

Eddie is survived by his children, Myron Matterson; Sheila Matterson-Grady and son-in-law, Kevin Grady, as well as four grandchildren; Derek Matterson, Kory Matterson, Sierra Grady and Almonese Dupree-Matterson; his niece, Marcy Mattison Vega and nephew-in-law, Marcello Vega; a great-nephew, Phoenix Vega, a great-niece, Skylar Vega and a host of extended family and friends.
