Gary Wayne "Moose" Allen, 75, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by family on August 4, 2024, in Plum Branch, South Carolina. Born on November 21, 1948, in Smithfield, North Carolina, he was a son to the late Raymond Allen and Edna Mae Phillips Allen.

Gary attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he played football and basketball for the Wildcats. He devoted over 30 years to a distinguished career at Savannah River Site, initially with DuPont and later with Westinghouse, excelling in various operations roles.  His leadership and collaborative spirit earned him the respect of both colleagues and management, and his contributions were instrumental in advancing the site's mission while fostering a supportive work environment.

Gary was known for his friendly demeanor, strong work ethic, can-do attitude, and deep sense of patriotism. He had a wide range of passions, including car restoration, building and racing dirt-track race cars and go-karts, cooking, saltwater fishing, and working on his farm. He had a remarkable talent for fixing anything that was broken and received immense joy and satisfaction from sharing his skills and knowledge with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Franklin Allen; his father, Raymond Allen; his mother, Edna Mae Phillips Allen; brothers, Albert Daniel “A.D.”, Ray, and Dennis Allen; and sisters, Eloise Ketterman and Mae Johnson. He is survived by his sons, retired Major William Albert Allen, and retired Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Ray Allen (Kathy); step-daughter, Suzanne Gabriel (Jason); and grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Allen, William Michael Allen, and Atley Hunter Gabriel.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date to honor Gary's memory. Andrew Wardlaw Funeral Home in McCormick, South Carolina, is assisting the family during this time.

Gary's life will be fondly remembered as one of love, laughter, meaningful contributions, and cherished moments. The world is a better place because he was in it as well as the lives of those blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed.
