Helen Josephine Hardy was Born on March 17, 1937 in Cass West Virginia. She departed this life on August 18, 2026. She was 89 years old.
Helen was the daughter of the late William Daughtery and Virginia Brown. She was educated in the Cross County West Virginia School System. She was previously married to the late Harry Walker. To this union three sons were born; Harry, Fred, and Clyde, all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Bill Brown.
Helen later moved to Plainfield, NJ. There she met and married Thomas Hardy, Sr. in May of 2010. She loved her husband dearly and was a devoted, caring wife. She was employed at the King's Daughter special education school of North Plainfield, NJ for more than three decades. She retired in 2012.
Helen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield, NJ for many years. There she sang in the choir. In 2013 Helen and Thomas relocated to McCormick, SC. Shortly thereafter, she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist church in McCormick where Rev. Michael A, Butler is the pastor. Helen so loved her pastor and First Lady Butler. Pastor and First Lady never missed an opportunity to check on her during her illness. Immediately upon moving to McCormick the Blair family adopted them and took them under their wings as Aunt Helen and Uncle Tommie. The Blair’s loved and cared for them above and beyond the call of duty.
Helen loved her family and was a family oriented person. She had such a special love for her mother-in-law, Mother Fannie Hardy. She never missed an opportunity to spoil her with beautiful cards and gifts on special days. Helen had a loving relationship with all of her sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She loved holidays and festivities. She also loved to cook. One could always get a great dinner at Helen and Tommie's house.
Helen leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband of sixteen years, Thomas Hardy, Sr.; three stepchildren, Thomas Hardy Jr. of North Plainfield, NJ, Tonya Hardy of Roselle, NJ, and Hope Malcolm of Marietta, GA; seven step-grandchildren, one nephew, Kenny Brown of Greenville, SC, a great niece, Deannah Mitchell, great nephew, William L Brown, a very special cousin, Rev. Lucy Jackson-Hughes of Virginia Beach, VA, four sisters-in-law: Nancy Brown of King Street, SC, Iola Bennett, of Camden, SC; Lula Hardy of Lawrenceville, GA and Rev. MaryEllen Lake of McCormick, SC. one brother-in-law, Larry Hardy of Lawrenceville, GA, four nieces by marriage, one nephew, a beloved goddaughter and friend, Idella Blair-Weaver (Dell) and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rest Helen. You fought a good fight. You bore your cross with dignity and strength. Now wear your crown.
