James Searles Obituary

James Ellis Searles transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal home, Thursday April 13, 2023.   He was born on April 19, 1960 in McCormick, SC to the late Henry Morgan and Mary Perrin Searles.   James was preceded in death by four siblings, Claude Searles, Elizabeth Hackett, Freda Parks and Gertrude Searles.

James was a member of White Rock FBH Church in McCormick, SC.   During his life span, James sung on the Friendship Community Choir and was a member of The Happy United Horsemen club (HUH).   James work journey was at “Big John’s” convenient store for many years and he worked 39 years at Georgia Pacific both in McCormick, SC faithfully until his health started to decline him.   He was a 1979 graduate of McCormick High School. 

James was a friend to all that came into his path.   He enjoyed cooking and sitting around in various locations in town looking at traffic coming in and going out.   James had a way of keeping the room lite up when he was around.   He is known for his heart felt sayings, “Don’t worry about nothing and Say it ain’t so”.  

James memories will be cherished by his two daughters, Angel Searles of McCormick, SC and Corinne Ferguson of Chicago, IL; two sons, James J. Searles of Greenwood, SC and Jonathan Mims of Savannah, GA; a bonus daughter, Tonya Harris of McCormick, SC; three sisters, Mary Hardy, Shirley Searles and Joann (Ricky) Mursier all of McCormick, SC; three brothers, John David Searles, Reverend Melvin (Mary) Searles of McCormick, SC and Richard (Denise) Searles of Woodbridge, VA; nine grandchildren, Darious Kinlow, Baniah Robinson, Sha’Mya Searles, Ja’Vari Searles, Trevor Mims, DeShawn Mims, Robert Chance, Tashaney Harris and Richard Harris Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Clydie Hackett of Promise Land Community.   He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends to mourn his passing.
