Kabertha Fleming was born in McCormick, South Carolina on Friday, August 17, 1934 to the late Fred Fleming Sr. and Lucretia Freeman Fleming. She departed this life on earth quietly on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Kabertha was educated through the McCormick Public School System and graduated from Mims High School in 1953. “Kay”, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, relocated to Chester, Pennsylvania in 1954. She met her husband Dempsey Henry Paul McCready Sr. shortly after. Kabertha and Dempsey shared the same birthday August 17th. “Kay” and Dempsey wed on August 10, 1956. Kabertha has four beloved children Michael (Mike), Dempsey (Demp), Genise (Geny), and Stephen (Steve).

Mrs. McCready was a registered nurse. Her nursing skills were appreciated at Crozer Keystone, Tri-County Hospital (formerly known as Humana, Metropolitan, and Springfield Hospital), Manor Care, Belevedere, Mercy, Manchester House, and also did private duty. “Kay’s” nursing expertise was not only utilized in a hospital setting, she was an impeccable nurse to anyone in need.

She also volunteered at Greater Philadelphia Food Bank and Chester Eastside Ministries. “Kay’s” acts of service and participation at these three establishments were greatly appreciated for several years.

“Kay” was comical, compassionate, fearless, energetic, witty, and strong. People admired her empathetic spirit and wisdom. Kabertha had infamous catchphrases such as, “Fine and Dandy, Sweet as Candy”, “Heeeeeeyyy Sweets!”, and “I’m gonna be frank with you”. She was more than a conqueror and a fighter until the end.
