Lonzia Callaham Obituary

Mr. Lonzia Neal Callaham, 89, of McCormick, South Carolina transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the home of his granddaughter.

Mr. Callahan, affectionally known as “Cleve” to some and “Neal” to others, was born October 22, 1932, in McCormick, South Carolina, the oldest son of the late Tellmon and Ethel Callaham.  He received his education in the public schools of McCormick County.  Over the years, Neal was employed by various companies including McAbee Building Supply, Kalman Floor Company and on October 29, 2004, he retired from the Maintenance Department for the County of McCormick as a truck driver.   In 1955, Neal married the late Mary Jean Worthy Callaham with one daughter conceived during this union, the late Janice “Pat” Foster.

Neal was an active member of Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church in McCormick where he served faithfully on the Board of Trustees until his health begun to fail.

A quiet and pleasant demeaner, Neal loved the Lord, his family, friends, church family and fishing.  He leaves to cherish his precious memories; a special friend, Mrs. Evelyn Mims of McCormick; loyal and devoted granddaughter, Teneal Foster Sibert (Antonio) of the home and grandson, Derrick Foster of Asheville, North Carolina; one brother, Walter Callaham of Woodford, VA; 3 sisters, Mildred Wakefield of Anderson, SC; Nearldean (Rev. Dr. Ernest) Woodson of Spotsylvania, VA; Belinda Adams of Greenwood, SC; 6 devoted great-grandchildren (Malazhia Sibert, Antonio Sibert of the home;  Shaniya Foster and  Arieyun White of Greenwood; Derrick O’Neal Foster of Fredericksburg, VA and Camila Diyorio of Asheville, NC; one son-in-love, Benjamin Sibert of McCormick and one son-in-law, Derrick Foster of McCormick; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, wife, and daughter, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James Tellmon Callaham (Jenny) of New Jersey and a sister, Donna Fuller.
