Today, we celebrate the vibrant life of a beloved husband, father, cousin, brother-in-law, soldier, and esteemed mailman. Willie “Jacob” Boyd, known for his warmth and generosity, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and other cherished family members, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Jacob, the son of the late Bernice Boyd, was born on June 20th, 1964. He found his early roots in the loving home of his grandparents, the late Georgia and Dennis (Jack) Boyd. From a young age, he found solace and purpose in the embrace of the Little Mill Baptist Church, shaping his values and character. Graduating from McCormick High School in 1982, he pursued further education at Piedmont Technical College, laying the foundation for a life of service and dedication. Answering the call to serve his country, Jacob embarked on a distinguished 28-year career in the United States Air Force, stationed in various locations around the world. Upon retiring from military service, he transitioned seamlessly into a role at the United States Postal Service, where his friendliness and reliability as a mail carrier in Calhoun Falls, SC, endeared him to the community.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Jacob was a man of many talents and passions. He was the proprietor of a successful lawn service and his many hobbies included fishing, bowling, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. His infectious smile made him a cherished friend to all who crossed his path. Jacob leaves behind a loving wife, Sherry Boyd, who will forever hold his memory close. His legacy continues through his three sons; Demetrius Boyd of the home, Alvin Williams of McCormick, SC and Allynn Williams of Chester, VA, He is also survived by two uncles; Gilford (Dale) Boyd and Vernon Dennis Sr, two aunts; Mary Lee Boyd and Laura Mae Barnes, three sisters-in-law; Leilah B. Walker, Margaret (Jarvis) Utsey and Eddie Mae (James) Harris, one brother-in-law; James Earl (Effie) Anderson and a multitude of nephews, nieces and cousins. Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved Godmother, Alice Banks.
As we bid farewell to Jacob Boyd, we take solace in the countless memories he gifted us and the profound impact he has made on our lives. May his spirit live on in the cherished stories we share and the love we continue to spread in his honor.
