A Life Well Lived

On October 17, 2025, Nanita Davis peacefully departed this life at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY. Surrounded by love, and with God’s grace and her sister, Isabella’s kiss, Nanita transitioned at the remarkable age of 90.

Early Life and Family

Nanita was born on March 19, 1935, in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, to Elijah and Carrie Davis. That special day, the Davis family welcomed twins, Nanita and her sister Juanita (now deceased), growing their family to nine. From an early age, Nanita demonstrated kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She was also known for her adventurous spirit and eagerness to explore beyond her hometown of Calhoun Falls.

Education and Journey North

After completing her high school education in Calhoun Falls, Nanita’s curiosity led her to seek new experiences. In 1956, at the age of 21, she embarked on a journey northward. Her first stop was New Jersey, where she stayed with family, before ultimately settling in New York. Nanita made Harlem her home for over sixty years, building a life rich in community and service. She worked diligently for the New York City Public School System until her illness.

Faith and Community

Nanita was a devoted member of the Greater Refuge Temple Church in New York. Her faith was central to her life, and she found joy in serving the Lord and traveling with her church to fellowship with other congregations.

Cherished Family and Legacy

Nanita is survived by her elder sister, Isabella L. Davis-Prather, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Nancy Marie Davis, Sallie Ruth Usher, Juanita Davis, Mary Davis, Elliott Davis, Sarah L Neal, and William Davis.
