"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith . 2 Timothy 4:7
Robert Lewis Searles, fondly known as, "Preacher," by his family and friends entered peacefully into eternal rest on January 3, 2024, at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston, sc.
Robert was born on February 22, 1961, in McCormick, SC to the late Dorothy Virginia Searles and Curtis "Red Curt" Freeman. He was a graduate of The Class of 1982 from McCormick High School.
At a very early age, Robert joined Bethany Baptist Church in McCormick, SC under the leadership and guidance of Rev. S.L. McCain.
During his high school years, Robert worked for McCormick School District as a dedicated bus driver. After high school, he was employed with Satterfield Construction Company and was employed with this company for over 20 years. Before Robert became disabled, he was employed with Scott's Paving in Greenwood, SC.
Robert loved people unconditionally! He never met a stranger. His friendly disposition always attracted others to engage in lengthy conversations. He was a very encouraging person and always kept a smile on his face. Robert, was a hard-working man, who truly loved his family. Robert, a wise ole soul, even in his younger years, had a boldness and outspoken voice in his later years to share his love for God and his church. Robert was extremely proud of the changes God had made in his life and The New Creature in Christ he had become! He was not ashamed of courageously speaking about his "Brand, New Life!" This life was evident in the church, home, and community.
Robert was the handy-man in the community for those in need and was always willing to lend a helping-hand. Some of his most memorable saying will always linger in our hearts. He loved to start serious lectures with, "Listen at what I tell you now!" and "A mind is a terrible thang to waste!"
Robert, the first born of four children was preceeded in death by both of his parents. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: a special and devoted companion and friend for over 40 years, Florence Wilkerson; a daughter, Latoya Wilkerson, of the home; goddaughter, Dashika Murray; and godson, Bydarius Heath all of McCormick, SC. Fond memories of Robert will always linger in the hearts of his sister, Jacqueline J. Searles; three brothers, Matthew Searles, James Searles and his paternal brother; Thomas Letman all of McCormick, SC. In addition, memories will be shared and cherished by his twelve grandchildren; Justin Tatum-Smith, Destiny Williams, Kamauri Chamberlain, Jamiya Chamberlain, Tschaikowsky Holloway, Precious Holloway, Diamond Holloway, Zacheous Holloway, Tayvon Evans, Jayceon Heath, Khyri Heath, Braylen Wardlaw and great-grandson; Karter Smith. Also, memories to be cherished by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who mourn his passing.
