Samuel David Settles Sr.,65, husband of Brenda Adams Settles departed this life at his home on Brown St. in McCormick, SC on November 21, 2022 after an extended illness. He was born in McCormick County, SC on March 1, 1957 to the late James Andrew Settles and Virtee Brown Settles. He was raised in the home of his grandparents, the late Rev. Sam and Amanda Settles. 

Samuel was a member of St. Goodwill Baptist Church in Troy, SC where he served as a Deacon. He attended Abbeville County Schools; Served in the US Army and was a truck driver for twenty-one years before his retirement. Samuel loved serving the community and help anyone in need. He was a great hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed working in his garden.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Samuel was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Settles and a sister, Sharon Tennant.

Samuel’s memories will be cherished by his wife Brenda; four sons, David (Felicia) Settles of Anderson, SC, Samuel D. Settles Jr., Kerry Settles and Adam (Lucinda) Settles all of Greenwood, SC; a daughter, Amanda Settles of Richmond, VA; six brothers, Raymond (Shirley) Brown of Greenwood, SC, Willie (Jessie) Settles of Promise Land, SC, James Arthur (Therla) Settles and Henry(Annie) Settles both of McCormick, SC, Lyle (Tawan) Tennant and Quincy Tennant both of Greenwood, SC.; five sisters; Jeanette Gilchrist, Maxine (Jack) Parker and Julia (James) Smith all of McCormick, SC, Rosie Settles of Lexington, SC and Mary Tennant of Greenwood, SC; two aunts, Mary Callaham of McCormick, SC and Rosa Crockett of Augusta, GA; twenty-one grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
