Stephen Gordon Murray Obituary

On August 17th, 2023, Stevie transitioned to his heavenly home. He received the promise of 70 years.  He was born in Evanston, Illinois and was the youngest to 6 siblings.  Stevie received his early education in the Evanston Public Schools.

In the late 1980’s, he moved to McCormick, South Carolina to be with his mother.  On September 4, 1993, he was united in holy matrimony to Linda Murcier Brown, who blessed him with two stepsons, Frankie Brown, Ricardo Brown, and years later, six grandchildren.

Upon moving to McCormick, he was employed by Mt. Vernon Mills as a Supervisor and after more than 25 years, he retired.  He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch, South Carolina, for the past three years. He loved the Lord.

Stevie was a good husband, friend, provider, honest, intelligent, family-oriented, and maintained a close bond with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews in Evanston - often commanding online football and basketball fun.  He loved DaBears!

Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses Sr. and Eloise Murray, siblings James P. “Jim” Sr. (Barbara) Murray, Ulysses “Uly” Murray Jr, and Barbara Jean (Julius Sr. “Romi”) Mackey.

Stevie leaves to cherish his loving memory:  wife, Linda Murcier Brown Murray, sister Carrie Smith, brother, Frederick (Gwen) Murray, stepsons Frankie (Helene) Brown, Ricardo Brown, six grandchildren, Mother-in-Law Hattie Murcier, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a devoted friend, Jamie Harper
