Wilbur Tutt Mims was born in Lincolnton County, GA on July 14, 1937. He was the son of the late Joe and Annie Mae Dallas Mims. Wilbur departed this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 in Simpsonville, SC. He was 87 years old.

Wilbur was a member of Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in McCormick, SC. He attended McCormick  County Schools and retired from Monsanto in Greenwood, SC. He loved life, his family and people. He was a laidback and easygoing man. He excelled in sports and received trophies in baseball, bowling and golf. After retirement he made golf his fulltime hobby until his health declined.

In addition to his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by three  siblings, Joe Lee Mims, Lizzie Garrett and Bobby Mims.

Wilbur’s memories will be cherished by his former wife, Evelyn Mims of McCormick, SC; his daughter, Clara Gilchrist of Simpsonville, SC; sons, Tommy Mims of Lincolnton, GA, Wilbur Mims Jr. of Saluda, SC, Mikil Mims of Spartanburg, SC, Matthew Mims and Ronnie Mims both of McCormick, SC; sisters, Willie White, Lillian Martin, Betty Talley, Shirley Norman and Robbie Harrison all of Greenwood, SC; a brother, Charlie Norman of Greenwood, SC; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
