Zelma L. Settles Wideman
Mrs. Zelma L. Settles Wideman, 96, a loving and devoted mother, transitioned into eternal rest on June 6, 2023, at her home in McCormick, SC. She was born in McCormick, SC on January 25, 1927, to the late James and Susie Edmonds Settles. Zelma attended the public schools in McCormick County. She was formerly employed in Greenwood, SC at Park Davis. She was also an educator and homemaker.
Mrs. Wideman was very active in the church and community. She spent many faithful years at Shiloh A.M.E. Church, serving as a Class Leader, member of the Senior Choir and member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was also a member of Woman’s Home Aide Society No. 1.
Zelma was born one of nine children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Wideman, Sr; a daughter, Beatrice Wideman Gilliard; a son, Gerald Wideman; three brothers and three sisters.
Those left to cherish her memories are four children, Thelma Smith of McCormick, SC; James (Carolyn) Wideman, Jr. of Davidson, NC; Marie (Larry) Murphy of Easley, SC; and Mitchell (Janice) Wideman of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers, Rev. Robert Timothy (Diane) Settles of Snellville, GA, and Leroy Settles of Waldorf, MD; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
